Improving Safety of Marine Cable Survey Operation Through Safety Assessment using the Formal Safety Assessment Method (Case Study RV. Baruna Jaya)

Abstract In the last five years, survey operations for marine cables have become a yearly activity carried out by Indonesia’s Research Vessel. Safety in is one of biggest concerns cable route surveys. This paper focuses on handling operation risk and excluding vessel risk. To solve problem, we need analysis methodology with systematic steps to identify, prioritize, control risks. The International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) deal them Formal Assessment (FSA). Firstly, Hazard Identification (HAZID) used identify hazards prioritize Top Events where Towfish Survey Equipment Lost found as Highest Event basic events Bad Communication, Fisheries Aggregating Device, Seabed Collision, Wire & Cable fastening using Fault Tree Analysis Method second step. Determining Risk Control Option (RCO) based Basic FTA third step, which Mitigation Prevention will be highlight. Lastly, RCO assessed according Cost Benefit (CBA). results showed that Administrative Option, could reduce probability equipment being lost 46.55%.
